Change the call of the Australian team before the debut tomorrow Tuesday in the World Cup against France. The ‘Aussie’ Federation announced on Sunday that winger Martin Boyle, from Scottish Hibernians, is out with a knee injury and has been replaced by Marco Tilio, from Melbourne City.
Boyle, of Scottish origin, has been a doubt since the squad arrived in Qatar after suffering an injury in his squad. “We all feel sorry for Martin and this is a cruel blow for him on the eve of the World Cup,” Australian coach Graham Arnold said in a statement.
Tilio, a 21-year-old winger from Melbourne City, is in Qatar arriving on Tuesday in case Boyle does not recover, as usual. “Marco has done everything that has been asked of him to prepare for this tournament,” said Arnold. “He is an important member of our Tokyo 2020 Olympic team and is familiar with the national team setup. We look forward to seeing what he can bring to our team for the tournament.”
Arnold also assured that “we don’t have superstars, but we have an indestructible state of mind.” French defender Ibrahima Konaté assured this Sunday that “I don’t know anything” about tomorrow’s opponents.
