Jon Rahm: “I won on three different continents, it was a great season”

Date:

Jon Rahm became the first golfer on Sunday to win the grand final of European circuit on three occasions (2017, 2019 and 2022). And he did it in just four participations. Counting the now defunct Volvo Masters, played in Valderrama (Cádiz) and some years in Montecastillo (Jerez), Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick achieved two victories.

The Basque, moreover, was also the first to reach five victories in the contests of Rolex Series of the DP World Tour (European Circuit), broke ties with British Tyrrell Hatton.

But the Rahm thing at Dubai’s Jumeraih Estates doesn’t stop there. Other victories achieved by Barrika’s in the DP World Tour Championship 2022, as detailed by the European Tour portal are:

1) Ninth victory on the European Tour, equaling his compatriot Manolo Piñero as the fifth Spaniard with the most wins. Jon was just ahead of Seve Ballesteros (50), Txema Olazábal (23), Miguel Ángel Jiménez (21) and Sergio García (16).

2) The sixth victory for Spanish golf this year after Pablo Larrazábal (2), Adri Arnaus, Adrián Otaegui and his two, in the Spanish Open and the World Cup in Dubai; the 201st victory by Spanish players in the history of the European Tour. Otaegui had the honor of achieving 200 at the Estrella Damm Andalucía Masters.

3) This is the fourth time Jon has finished in the top three of the Race to Dubai (formerly the Order of Merit) in six seasons at the Circuit (11th and 22nd in the other two).

4) He is the remaining leader in the European points classification for the Ryder Cup, with 1,850.

5) It was his third win this season after the PGA Tour’s Mexico Open and the Spanish Open, equaling his highest haul of world-ranking valid victories in a single year. He also got three in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In total, 16 wins valid for the world ranking, in addition to his win at the Zurich Classic (in pairs) of the PGA Tour.

And 6) With 3 million dollars won in the Dubai Final, he finished the official season in Europe with more than 4.5 million euros, his second best year on the DP World Tour, surpassed only by more than 6 million earned in 2019.

I wish people would stop telling me it was a bad year. Three victories on three different continents. Yes, it hasn’t been a great year at the Grand Slams, but it’s still a great season. This year my second child was born, many changes at home… I have many videos of my children at home laughing and doing things. Kelley (Biscayan’s wife) sent me one of our youngest sons when he was clapping, and that’s what I was thinking about in the last holes, playing hoping he would clap a little”, Jon proudly said. the World Cup trophy in his hands.hands.
