“Women. Life. Freedom”, with these banners, Iranian fans were present at Khalifa International Stadium in DohThey protested the situation in their country, where women suffer constant repression.
The protests were directed at the Iranian regime for the killing of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old girl who was arrested and mistreated by police in September for disobeying the Iranian dress code by not wearing the veil properly.
Her murder, combined with the violence to which she was subjected and the lies of the Iranian government, increased the anger of the population, because of the abuse to which women are subjected. This revolution has also reached the football team, the best platform for the Iranian people to express their frustrations with a regime stuck in the past.
With tears, posters and requests like “please tell our story”, the Iranian people, the majority of the rivalry between England and Iran, protested in the second game of this World Cup.
Many eyes are on Sardar Azmoun, Bayer Leverkusen’s striker and the best player in the team. Azmoun, a substitute on Monday and who has not played due to injury since the end of September, published several messages on social networks in support of the revolution, which almost cost him his position in the national team.
