Manchester United fired Cristiano Ronaldo!

Date:

Divorce was inevitable after Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive statements and now the official announcement has come from Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer their player with immediate effect.

In its brief statement, United specified that the decision was adopted by “common agreement”. The Old Trafford club thanked the Portuguese star “for his collaboration during his two spells at Old Trafford”.

Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, signed for United for the first time in 2003, when he was almost 18, from Sporting de Portugal until 2009 when he went to Real Madrid. In this first trip, he won three Premier Leagues (2007, 2008, 2009), one FA Cup (2004), two League Cups (2006, 2009), one Community Shield (2007), one Champions League (2008) and a World. Cup. of Clubs (2008)

Cristiano left United in 2009 to sign for Real Madrid and, after nine seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu and three at Juventus, in August 2021 he returned to Old Trafford until now.

Not playing the Champions League ruins the relationship

This second phase, with United trying to recapture the glory of the past, has been less fruitful to the point of not winning a title this season and a half.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 18 goals in 30 Premier League games last season, but it was not enough for United to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in sixth place. Certainly the fact of being left out of Europe’s top competition has soured the relationship between club and player since he tried to leave last summer.

With the arrival of Erik ten Hag, Cristiano’s life at United took a turn for the worse. The Dutch coach relegated the Portuguese to the bench in the Premier, while only starting him in the Europa League.

Indiscipline and the trigger

After several episodes of indiscipline, most notably him refusing to take the field in the second half of United-Tottenham and leaving the bench before the end of the game, the trigger for the divorce was the explosive statements made last week.

Cristiano assured that “Manchester United tried to force me to leave. Not only the coach (Erik ten Hag) but also other people at the club. They betrayed me.” He stated about the coach that “he doesn’t deserve any respect from me; if you don’t respect me, I’m not going to respect you.” And he also attacked the Glazer family, who own the club: “They don’t care about the club or professional sport. Manchester is a marketing club.”

His last official goal for United, against Sheriff in the Europa League

});

Cristiano has scored just three goals this season, one in the Premier League and two in the Europa League, and in his two spells at Old Trafford he has scored 143 goals in 346 games.
