the bArni Racing Team announced this Thursday the signing of Danilo Petrucci for his 2023 WorldSBK campaign. Although the interest of Ducati, which he rode after his successful adventure in the last Dakar rally with KTM, was for him to continue in MotoAmerica where he finished the campaign as runner-up, Petrux finally survived in signing for a World Cup team Superkibe you already know.
Twelve years later, Barni and Petrux are on the run again. The Bergamo team launched Petrucci in the Superstock 1000 category in 2011. That year, riding a Ducati 1098R, Danilo took the title of Italian champion, as well as second place in the FIM World Cup, after achieving four race wins . Now begins a new adventure with the Barni Spark Racing team, in WorldSBK.
Born in Terni on October 24, 1990, the Italian rider competed in MotoGP for ten years, six of them with Ducati -from 2015 to 2018 with Pramac and 2019 -20 with official Ducati- and won of two races at Mugello in 2019 and Le Mans 2020.
In 2022, he competed in the Dakar Rally, where he was the only rider to win at least one MotoGP race and one Dakar stage. He also competed in MotoAmerica, riding a Dunlop-shod Ducati Panigale V4 R and finishing second in the championship, and also in MotoGP during the race with Suzuki filling in for Joan Mir’s injury leave. Now a new World Cup challenge awaits him, again with the Panigale V4 R but in its Superbike configuration.
“I’m very happy to be back with Barni. 2011 was one of my best seasons, but, above all, I cannot say no to the opportunity to race in the Superbike World Championship with such a competitive bike. It’s a championship where “I’ve never competed before and I’m looking forward to measuring myself against the competition. I would like to thank the entire Barni team for giving me this opportunity and all those who contributed to make this agreement possible,” said Petrux.
Marco Barnabò, team principal, explained that “I am very happy to welcome Danilo back to the team. As always, we will do everything to give the driver everything he needs to be competitive. We are not talking about his talent. We know we still have a lot of work to do because we will be up against riders with more Superbike experience than him, but with his motivation and hard work we know we can do it. .”
