Van der Poel started at the back to attack with high speed and leave all his rivals behind and reach the final lap with an advantage, including the British world champion Tom Pidcock who broke a tire on his bike and was unable to complete the difficult and muddy course on which the test was held.
The second position went to the Belgian Laurens Sweeckwhich reached 15 seconds, and the third for Eli Iserbyt, also Belgian, at 22 seconds.
The best Spaniard, in seventh position, was Felipe Orts who reached the finish line 1.50 minutes behind the winner.
In the female category, the dominance of the Dutch is absolute, taking the top five positions.
Puck Pieterse dominated with a time of 46.31 ahead of his compatriots Fem van Empel and Shirin van Anrooij who finished in 42 seconds and 1.47 minutes, respectively. The fourth place went to Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, in 2.06 minutes and the fifth for Lucinda Brand, in 2.12.
