It’s been an open secret and this Tuesday it became official. The Ferrari team released a statement announcing that it had accepted the resignation of Mattia Binottowho thereby stepped down from his duties as team leader.
“Ferrari has announced that it has accepted the resignation of Mattia Binotto, who will step down as Scuderia Ferrari team principal on December 31” The letter begins in which he is thanked “for his great contribution throughout 28 years at Ferrari and, in particular, for leading the team to a position of competitiveness last year”.

});
For his part, Binotto assured that he had decided “end my collaboration with Ferrari. I’m leaving a company I love, that I’ve been a part of for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the belief that I did everything possible. to achieve the goals set. I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I’m sure, to reach the highest goal, for which I wish the best for the future.”
For weeks the Italian press speculated about Binotto’s farewell due to the lack of trust in him by the president of the car company, John Elkann.
Rumors about his departure from the ‘Prancing Horse’ team increased at the end of the season with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix just concluded, although a day before the race the ‘main team’ seemed relaxed about their situation with the team leader.
Binotto, who has a valid contract until the end of 2023, would have mentioned to some of his close friends at the last GP that he was “too tired to continue his work in critical conditions within the company.”
The name that most resonates to replace Binotto is that of the Frenchman Frederic Vasseurcurrent manager of the Alfa Romeo team, but ‘Corriere della Sera’ also points out that until an agreement is reached with the Frenchman, Benedetto Vigna will temporarily be in charge of Gestione Sportiva.
As of now, Ferrari has announced that the process for the appointment of a new Team Principal of the Scuderia is underway and the final decision is expected to be made at the beginning of the year.
