The Hungarian town of Debrecen will host the third edition of European women’s futsal, according to the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee. This is a tournament in which Spain will defend the title achieved in the first two editions.
Portugal, Ukraine and hosts Hungary will be the candidates to topple the Claudia Pons. The tournament will be held between March 16 and 19 at the Fönix Arena, which already hosted the 2010 European Men’s Championship where Spain was declared champion.
The four participating teams will repeat the previous European Championship in July, where Spain defeated Ukraine in the semifinal (9-0) and Portugal in the final decided in a penalty shootout (3-3, 4-1 ). In 2019, in the first edition, the Spanish also defeated the Portuguese in the final (4-0).
To qualify for the Final Four to be held in Debrecen, Spain defeated Belgium (14-0), Sweden (6-1) and Finland (7-2) in the qualifying group played in the latter country.
