Senegal knocked out Ecuador and entered the round of 16

Date:

Senegal are still alive at the World Cup in Qatar thanks to Tuesday’s victory over an Ecuador that will return home after a poor game, disappointing the Tricolor in its farewell. The Africans, who deserved the victory, tied their passport to the round of 16 of the World Cup and passed as second in Group A, the Netherlands the first.

Sarr put the Lions of Teranga ahead on the stroke of half-time thanks to a penalty which Sarr conceded and converted in the 42′. In the second half, Ecuador jumped out with better spirit but it was not given to take the rivalry. Moisés Caicedo leveled the game in the 68′ but two minutes later Koulibaly put Senegal ahead again, a 1-2 win that was unshakeable and well-deserved for the Africans. Ecuador, very fragile at the back and without a punch, tried until the end but failed to put a Senegal in real trouble that is still alive in the World Cup with different arguments and deserves after the football shown today against the South Americans.

Ecuador and Senegal have made changes to their line-ups compared to their previous matches, with Ecuadorian Enner Valencia again prominent despite the sprained knee he is carrying.

Leones de Teranga started the stronger, taking the initiative from the first breath against an Ecuador that struggled to get into the game. At minute 3, the Africans had their first chance. Gueye was on the counter, but his shot missed the target. Six minutes later it was Dia who scored.

The Ecuadorian defense suffered from errors against a brash and very brave Senegal on the counter. What’s more, Gustavo Alfaro’s players lost the battle in midfield, uncomfortable and lacking in command where the football was cooked. And Senegal’s goal is chewing the air.

Sarr (25′) and Pathé Ciss (36′) deserved the goal, but despite dominating and deserving of more, they continued to make excuses against a weak and nervous Ecuador in defence.

The pitcher goes so far at the source that it eventually falls over. Senegal managed to open the melon from eleven meters. In the 42′ minute, Sarr’s attack was aborted by Hincapié’s free kick which put the Watford attacker in front. Book penalty Sarr himself converted to put the score at 1-0, deservedly so for some Leones de Teranga who got the better of a disappointing Tricolor in the 1st half.

The second half started strongly with an Ecuador that was quite consistent after the changes introduced by coach Alfaro. Alternations dominated the first few minutes but soon the Tricolor struck. In the 68′, after a corner kick, the African defense did not clear the force well enough and Moisés Caicedo got hold of a loose ball and beat goalkeeper Mendy from point-blank range, bringing the scoreboard back to euphoria of South American fans.

But Ecuador’s joy was short-lived as Senegal quickly rose to prominence. In the 70th minute, a free kick was poisoned again in favor of the Africans and the yellow defense was not very strong when it was cleared. And Koulibaly popped up to shoot past the Ecuadorian goalkeeper and put Leones de Teranga ahead again.

The rivalry went crazy, desperately looking for an equalizer for Ecuador, a draw that gave them a ticket for the round of 16. Dia was the third for the Africans (83′). The Tricolor pressed hard but couldn’t get the tie they wanted and Senegal exploded with joy as they won and advanced to the next round. He was still alive at the Senegal World Cup, he fell on the Ecuadorian coast.
