The world heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Council, the British Tyson Furysaid he deprived himself of sex in preparation for his title defense against his compatriot Derek Chisora and he’s ready to eat a “Christmas cookie” on Saturday night.
The two Britons face each other in the stadium of Tottenham Hotspur in north London and the ‘Gypsy King’ is expected to complete a winning trilogy against a 38-year-old opponent he comfortably beat in 2011 and 2014.
The bout will be Fury’s first since knocking out his compatriot in the sixth round. Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in April, after which he temporarily retired as he had promised his wife he would.
This Thursday, in a press conference, he said that he is “in great shape, in good spirits, ready to rock and roll” and that he is happy to fight every month of the year.
“I train hard and I respect every opponent I face,” Fury said. “I give 110% every time I’m in the gym, I trained for nine weeks for this fight, I didn’t have sex for six weeks,” he said.
Chisora, unfazed by the pre-fight hype and underdog status, said he will go to war, promising it will be “electric. I want to take what’s his and make it mine. Physically and mentally.” He assured that “it won’t stink, it will be a great fight.”
Chisora also revealed that he and Fury had made a bet, for no money, which would become apparent to everyone after the fight.
Despite strong ticket demand, with an expected capacity of 60,000 fans, the fight is the path to a unification bout with the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usik.
Fury’s promoter Bob Arum told reporters that a unification fight with WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk is likely next, unless there is a major upset.
“I see no reason why Usyk’s fight with Tyson Fury can’t be done quickly,” said promoter Bob Arum, the Briton’s manager. “This is the next fight, unless Mr. Chisora strikes.”
