Manuel Neuer is not considering ending his international career at the age of 26 despite Germany’s second World Cup disaster in a row by failing to get past the first stage at both Russia 2018 and now Qatar 2022.
“If they call me up and I have good performances, then I can rule it out. I hope it continues. Nothing else to say,” Neuer told the media when questioned about his possible withdrawal from the German team after 117 international matches behind him. since its debut in June 2009.
Neuer became the first German goalkeeper to start four World Cups and, in addition, on Thursday he became the goalkeeper with the most appearances (19) played in a World Cup against Costa Rica, surpassing his compatriot Sepp Maier and the Brazilian Claudio Taffarel.
If he continues to be called up, Neuer’s next challenge will be Euro 2024 with Germany as the host. In May he renewed his contract with Bayern Munich until June 30, 2024.
