The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) gave green light “with reservations” to the organization in Lille of the group stage of the basketball tournaments of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“As the Games approach (July 26 – August 11, 2024) and given the significant efforts made by all parties and their experts, it has been exclusively decided to approve this site with reservations, pending confirmation that the FIBA requirements are met, especially those related to the health and safety of the players and the associated risks,” FIBA a statement on Saturday.
The pavilion initially planned to host group stage matches, within the Parc des Expositions at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, was concentrated in criticism of various French basketball playersprompting the organizers to move the matches to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, in Lille.
But the location of the venue in northern France in the basketball arrangement has sparked discussions within FIBA. The final stage of the women’s and men’s basketball tournaments of the 2024 Olympic Games, from the quarterfinals, it must be played at the Arena de Bercy. The Games’ 3X3 basketball tournament is scheduled at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
