New WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury said on ESPN television that he may need surgery on his right elbow, which could delay a unification matchup with Ukranian Oleksandr Usyk, the US champion. WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO, scheduled for the end of February or March of next year.
Following his 10th-round victory over title contender Derek Chisora, he declared that “I have some hand problems and I may need elbow surgery, but after that, I’m ready for anybody,” said champion.
“I had left (elbow) surgery in October (2021) after the Wilder III fight, so I have to do it. It’s going to take six to eight weeks to heal. We’ll see when we’re ready for this fight, we’ll see when it can be done.” , warned of a fight for reunification.
In the following press conference, the undefeated WBC champion declared that he feels great and is looking forward to a “great 2023. I just believe that I can beat anybody. Nobody can stop me, I am on a roll. I will be in shape for the next match, can’t wait. Whoever comes next will also be removed” he told ESPN.
