Kane is just one goal away from Rooney’s record

Date:

Harry Kane scored the second goal today in his team’s victory over Senegal (3-0) in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and is now one more than Wayne Rooney’s historical record in the England shirt. The Tottenham crack has 52 goals with the ‘pross’ while the legendary former Manchester player has 53 in total.

Voted man of the match after scoring his first goal of the tournament, Kane hoped it was “the start of a run” and stressed there is no better feeling for a striker than scoring.

“As a striker, scoring goals is what we do. It’s the best feeling. I’m delighted and grateful that it was on a day like today. I hope it’s the start of a streak,” Kane said in a press conference.

“We have people scoring from all positions and this is something very good in these rounds of the tournament. I scored, yes, but the important thing is that it was a good team performance,” added the English striker.

Kudos to Bellingham

During Kane’s few minutes in front of the press, he also had time to praise Jude Bellingham and was asked if the youngster was one of the best young players he’s ever worked with.

“Of course, he is there. He is a fantastic player, he can run, steal the ball, drive the ball, pass… He has a lot of quality.”
