Declan Rice assured that they “silenced the critics” with England’s victory over Senegal in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar (3-0).
“I think they didn’t give us the credit we deserved. The Netherlands or Argentina, for example, don’t win their games easily. They always say a lot of negative things to us. Our last two games were perfect ,” Rice said, referring to the 3-0 they also achieved against Wales on the last day of the group stage.
Rice was also asked about the goal-scoring ability of the English team, who have already matched the 2018 World Cup’s twelve goals and bettered the 11 of the 1966 edition, when they won their only title.
“Before the tournament there was a lot of talk about us not scoring goals. We silenced the critics,” Rice said.
Against France, a good match
Regarding the quarterfinal match against France, the West Ham midfielder assured that this is the kind of game they want to play and there are no better matches than this world football classic.
Rice, undisputed in the English team, was full of praise for his teammate Jude Bellingham, a candidate for the best player of the tournament.
“I’m very happy to see him like this, to see an athletic and talented player create those chances. He’s been doing it all season in Dortmund and now he’s doing it for us,” Rice said.
