Eto’o apologizes for attacking a youtuber

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FCF), announced his reasons on Tuesday after the attack made by an Algerian youtuber who accused him of buying the game.

“I deeply regret that I lost my sanity and reacted in a way that does not correspond to my character,” the soccer player said on social networks, hours after the attacker, Saduni SM, announced that he would file a complaint with Qatari police.

Despite these excuses, Eto’o assured that he will continue to “fight the incessant provocations and the daily harassment of some Algerian fans”.

“I was the target of insults and baseless accusations of corruption. In this World Cup, Cameroonian fans were harassed by Algerians for the same reason,” added the former Barcelona striker, among other teams .

At the origin of the attack, which took place at the gate of the 974 stadium in Doha a few minutes after the match between Brazil and South Korea, was the qualifying play-off for the World Cup in Qatar between Algeria and Cameroon.

The attacked youtuber asked Eto’o if he bought Bakary Gassama, the referee of the controversial match, which angered the former player, who kicked him hard in the chest, as can be seen in the photos circulating on social networks.

The FCF president, who is also a FIFA ambassador, recalled that the elimination of Algeria was “cruel but completely in line with the rules and ethics” of football.

He recalled that all the appeals presented by Algeria were rejected and asked the Federation of that country to “end this changed climate before a bigger drama happens.”

Saduni SM assured that she filed a complaint for assault and destruction of material, as they destroyed the camera where she recorded the scene.

After leaving the stadium, many fans asked for photos of Eto’o, who smilingly agreed to their requests, until the youtuber who recorded the scene arrived, which immediately provoked the ex-player’s anger of soccer. Several people tried to separate him, but Eto’o chased after the youtuber, where another person took the camera. At that moment, the former player moved away from the people trying to calm him down and kicked Sadumi, who fell to the ground.

According to what he narrated on his channel, the youtuber sustained several injuries while his camera and microphone were destroyed, for which he requested that anyone who saw the scene, come forward to testify on his behalf.

Eto’o witnessed all of his team’s matches in Qatar, which failed to make it past the group stage, despite losing to Brazil on the final day. The former Barcelona player is still in the Qatari capital.
