The Sopela Women’s Team began building its 2023 squad, with the renewal of some of its cyclists and the commitment to young talent with five signings from the youth category.
Is about Estela Domínguez, Carolina Leonardo, Nahia Imaz, Laia Puigdefábregas, Maitane Arana. All of them will make their debut in the under-23 category and focus on their training in the ranks of a team dedicated to young talent and respecting their academic calendars.
Estela Domínguez is in the middle of the cyclo-cross season, although last year she showed the team Bioracer Auribis (Berango) a great level. Today, he assures that his arrival in Sopela “is like a dream come true, I have always wanted to compete here. It motivates me a lot to race outside of Spain and compete with the best in the International peloton, but the most important thing is to continue to learn a lot from our directors, as well as our colleagues and races in this category”.
Nahia Imaz’s season was very complicated due to an injury, when she was competing in CC Ermita. “I really want to find good feelings again, since I came from a very hard year.” For his part, Maitane Arana he wants to “have fun and continue learning from the new category, meet new colleagues, help and contribute everything he has to achieve the goals”.
In the case of carolina leonardofacing the new category with great enthusiasm and I can only thank the opportunity and trust given to me. Although this is a huge change in the category and it will not be easy, we are here to continue learning”, explained the cyclist who came from Rio Miera-Cantabria Sport.
Finally, Laia Puigdefábregas who had health problems during the season and could not repeat his good results as a junior in his first year, he hopes to return to his level that allowed him to become an international in the Spanish National Team or a silver medal in the time trial in the Spanish Championships. “I am starting a new phase to explore and always generate great enthusiasm. I also believe that Sopela fits my goals very well and I hope to take advantage and enjoy this opportunity.”
