Corinthians and his action against Bolsonaro

Date:

Corinthians on Tuesday reversed the hiring of a technical assistant to support protests by Bolsonaro supporters calling for a coup against Brazil’s president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da silva.

The Sao Paulo club reported in a note that Rodrigo Santanawhose hiring was announced on Monday, will no longer “be part of the technical committee” of the first team for the 2023 season.

“The club and the professional, by mutual agreement, have chosen not to follow up on the contract,” Corinthians added.

Santana will join the technical commission headed by Fernando Lázaro, but the board has begun to receive intense pressure from advisers and fans since it was learned that he participated in coup demonstrations against Lula’s victory in the polls.

Since the October 30 election, thousands of supporters of the current leader, far-right Jair Bolsonaro, have demonstrated outside military barracks in several cities across the country.

They do not know the result of the election and are asking for the “intervention” of the Armed Forces to prevent Lula from coming to power next January 1st.

Santana participated in at least one of these protests, as published on his social networks. His position contrasted with the philosophy of the so-called ‘People’s Team’, where in the 1980s a pro-democracy movement emerged driven by players against the military dictatorship that prevailed at the time (1964-1985).
