Zverev survived a marathon with Sinner in Monte Carlo

Date:

Alexander Zverev, second favorite, held a fierce duel, endless and epic battle, against the Italian Jannik Sinnersolved in three hours and 5 minutes and three tight sets (5-7, 6-3 and 7-6 (5)) to reach his goal and reach the semifinals of Monte Carlo Tennis Masters 1000.

The shock tilted the German, though he could fall on anyone’s side. It is defined by small details, by errors that have no solution at particular moments. The proposal of one was answered by the other. Each break is accompanied by a break from the rival. Nothing yielded on the wrist.

It’s an epic battle, full of ups and downs and full of alternatives between two talented players. One has already settled between the heights of the circuit. The other, the Italian, is the highest exponent of the generation that remains. Both are empty on the track.

Zverev wants to take over Monte Carlo and live. A competition he has yet to meet and could put him hard in the race for number one. The Olympic champion’s victory in 2022 is empty, despite the fact that he is close to winning Montpelier.

He did everything to handle a competition that has lost a large portion of his favorites and points to him as the great contender for the final victory at the expense of the current champion, the Greek. Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He starred in a comeback of memories, of those that strengthen the latter. Zverev’s third win in four meetings against Sinner, who won their only duel on clay, in 2020 Roland GarrosIt started badly. Transalpine got the first sleeve.

Sinner has won nothing so far in 2022 and is back to stay in the quarterfinals as it did then Miami, Dubai and the Australian Open. He couldn’t get past the hurdle that Sinner was left without in his first semifinal of the season due to the German’s perseverance that although wasted 4-1 in the second set, ended up scoring partially and equalizing the duel.

The tiebreaker is epic. Zverev had the advantage and he even served to win before the tie break but Sinner responded again and extended the finish. The third player in the world who doesn’t forgive more hasn’t lost his wrist.

Alexander Zverev will play in the semifinals against the winner of the match between the Argentines Diego Schwartzmanntwelfth seeded, and the defending champion, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipasthird favorite.
