The Elche was defeated this Saturday against the Genk (2-3) in a friendly match played at the Martínez Valero stadium behind closed doors which the Belgian team won in the last minutes.
Argentine Ezequiel Ponce put Elche ahead at the start of the match, although the Belgian team leveled moments later. It was already the second half, and after a carousel of changes, Pere Milla put the Elche team ahead again, but a penalty and a goal in the last moments allowed Genk to restore the result.
Elche’s coach, Pablo Machín, initially opted for a lineup consisting of Werner, Lirola, Gonzalo Verdú, Pamíes, Clerc, Lautaro, Gumbau, Quina, Collado, Ponce and Roger Martí.
A few minutes later, youth squad player Carles Marco replaced Pamies and, midway through the first half, Argentinean Nico Fernández replaced Pol Lirola. Edgar Badia, Guti, Omar, Pere Milla, Josan, Lucas Boyé, Fidel, Alfaro and Cocca also played in the second half.
This match is the third preparatory match played by the Elche team during the break in the World Cup competition after the ones played against the English teams West Bromwich Albion (1-0) and Leeds United (1-2).
