FIFA submits Argentina, which fears sanctions

Date:

The disciplinary committee studies the attitude of the players of Albiceleste and the Netherlands during the exciting and controversial duel in the quarter-finals of the World Cup

Argentina may have a problem because FIFA has adopted its registration and the course of action of the body chaired by Gianni Infantino is known to all, especially when it comes to adopting economic sanctions. As it turns out, the highest universal football body announced this Saturday the opening of an investigation into the Argentine Football Association (AFA) into what happened during the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, with the Albiceleste taking on the Dutch Lusail stadium (2 -2 and 4-2 on penalties for the South Americans).

In particular, the attitude of some players of Lionel Scaloni’s team and the delegation is studied during the tense confrontation between the two teams and also afterwards. Therefore, it can be said that the duel decided from the so-called fateful point and with a controversial arbitration by the Valencian Mateu Lahoz left sequels and not only sports.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the AFA for alleged violations of Articles 12 (Inappropriate Behavior of Players and Officials) and 16 (Order and Safety in Matches) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the Netherlands-Argentina match.” pronunciation. Infantino’s body does not end there, as it has also filed a file against the Dutch Federation for possible violations related to the aforementioned Article 12.

From this moment on, the disciplinary committee will have to deliberate quickly to determine whether some of the attitudes of the Argentines should be sanctioned, as the semi-final against Croatia is next Tuesday and there is hardly any time for the investigation, punishments and any pleas or appeals.

Argentina doesn’t lose focus on day-to-day work, but it has no choice but to look with suspicion at FIFA’s first-instance sports field as it could lose some of its players ahead of its penultimate Grand Final appointment at 18 December. In particular, Leandro Paredes, goalkeeper Dibu Martínez and even Leo Messi, who openly criticized Mateu Lahoz after the clash, are under investigation.

It is difficult for FIFA to dare to impose an exemplary penalty in this case, but within that they did not like the tanganas, nor the constant protests and especially that some Argentinian players celebrated on penalties after qualifying by turning to the tearful Dutch with gestures that could be labeled as provocative.
