The Brazilian Flamengo, current champion of Libertadores Cup, announced this Tuesday in Portuguese Victor Pereira as the new coach of the first team for the 2023 season.
“Flamengo informs that it has an agreement with coach Vítor Pereira to command the professional cast in 2023,” the Rio de Janeiro club said on its social networks.
Pereira, 54, led Corinthians this year, one of the Rio de Janeiro team’s biggest rivals, in what was his first experience of Brazilian soccer, but at the end of the season he announced he would not continue for “family reasons .”
Afterwards, he made sure that he would not sign for another Brazilian club and that he would return to his home, in Portugal.

Before landing in Brazil, the Portuguese coach coached his country’s Porto, Greek Olympiacos, German 1860 Munich, Chinese Shanghai SIPG, Saudi Al Ahli and Turkish Fenerbahçe, among others.
Pereira to replace Brazilian in ‘Fla’ Dorival Junior, who stepped down last month, amid stark differences on the board of what is the country’s most popular team and despite winning the Copa Libertadores in 2022.
The local press now places Dorival Júnior as one of the possible candidates to replace the Brazilian coach, Tite, who left the position after the elimination in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar.
