FIFPRO has called for the threat of execution against the Iranian footballer to be lifted

The International Federation of Professional Football Associations (FIFPRO) He called on his social networks for the “immediate” removal of the threat of the death penalty with which the Iranian authorities could punish the Iranian soccer player Amir Nasr-Azadani.

“FIFPRO is shocked by reports that the professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and fundamental freedoms in her country. We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate lifting of his punishment,” the statement read.

Amir Nasr-Azadani was arrested for publicly defending women’s rights and freedoms in Iran.

Nasr-Azadani played for various clubs in Iran and during the 16-17 and 18-19 seasons he did so for Tractor Sazi, a team signed by Spanish coach Paco Jémez.

This Monday, Majid Reza Rahnavard, a wrestler, was hanged after being sentenced to death in a one-day trial for the same reason.

The president of the Supreme Court of Isfahan province, Asadolá Jafarí, confirmed on Sunday that Amir Reza Nasr Azadani was accused of “moharebeh” or “anger to God” for his alleged participation in the killing of three security agents in 16 November in the city of Isfahan.

There are nine defendants in those murders and “until now, the indictment has been issued for these defendants but no punishment has been passed against them,” according to Yafarí.

“The defendant (Azadani) has openly confessed to his criminal actions. There is also video from local cameras and there is sufficient documentation that this person is a member of an armed group, and the indictment was issued based on the documents this,” added Yafarí ..
