The FIFA president announces a budget of $ 11 billion for the next four years
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed the creation of a new Club World Cup with the presence of 32 teams by the year 2025. The new format, which will be played in the summer, will replace the current one, in which the six champions from each confederation participate, the last edition of which will be played in Morocco in February next year.
Infantino is going ahead with that plan, despite speculation in recent days about the rejection by European clubs. “It will be a tournament with the best clubs in the world once every four years. Today we have approved their organization, but details on the participating teams and the host country will be announced in due course.”
“That World Cup for clubs should have been played in 2021, but we left room for the European Championship and the Copa América,” Infantino continued, pointing out that FIFA is also creating a similar competition for women’s football.
Infantino also expressed his opinion on the position of the European Union lawyer, who positioned himself in favor of FIFA and UEFA in the dispute they have with the organizers of the Super League: “It is very positive for football . It recognizes the fact that we have legitimacy to host and approve contests. It is something that has its clear basis in European laws. It confirms what we have been saying for a long time.”
In terms of the calendar, the FIFA Council has also agreed to merge the September and October international windows to make one, with four matches instead of two. In addition, Infantino confirmed that the decision on the venue for the 2030 World Cup, which Spain is aiming for in a joint candidacy with Portugal and Ukraine, will be made in the first half of 2024.
Infantino revealed $7.5 billion in revenue over the past four years, $1 billion more than budgeted. For the next cycle, until the 2026 World Cup, he announced a budget of $ 11,000 million, almost fifty percent more.
