On June 11, Bizkaia will host “L’Etape Bilbao of the Tour de France”, an unrepeatable cycling tour that will form an exact replica of the opening day of the gala round, starting and ending in Bilbao and 185 km.
The test will have an edition on the occasion of the great celebration that the Grand Départ Pays Basque represents and pursues a double objective: to attract and publicize the novice to participate in this event and to spread the start of the gala round to the citizens.
On the website http://www.letour.euskadi.eus you can now make a preferred reservation for the moment when registrations open, scheduled for mid-January.
The Grand Départ Pays Basque 2023 represents a historic milestone when it comes to demonstrating the ability of Basque institutions to attract and organize events of an international nature. The arrival of the Tour de France is a great opportunity to show the great passion felt in the Basque Country for cycling. And one of the ways to show that enthusiasm is by pedaling the roads that the idols of the world peloton will walk on the opening day of the ‘Grande Boucle’, which this year will celebrate its 120th anniversary.
Among the various activities organized around the great event represented by the start of the race, and with the aim of making the general public and cycling fans feel part of this great celebration, the Grand Départ Pays Basque 2023 has decided to promote the creation of an exclusive edition of “L’Etape Bilbao of the Tour de France”, a unique cycling tour that will follow the same path as the opening day of the 2023 Tour de France on June 11.
The Basque Country and its large cycling community have been waiting decades for a new arrival from the Tour de France. Just as Donostia-San Sebastián was the starting point in 1992, Bilbao is an unprecedented city in the history of the “Grande Boucle” for men. The Men’s Tour de France has never covered the roads of Bizkaia. In 2023 it will be released through the front door. And “L’Etape Bilbao of the Tour de France” will be the only opportunity to be pioneers in such a special march, an exclusive edition that will consist of a copy of the first stage. 185 kilometers and more than 3,300 meters of inequality, both of which will be covered by Mikel Landa, Ion Izagirre, Pello Bilbao, Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogaçar, Wout Van Aert or Julian Alaphillipe, among others, on July 1.
