At the end of the year, the turquoise green federal government swears to unity and shows harmony. “A lot has been achieved in 2022, but there are still many projects that need to get underway in the coming year,” emphasizes Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens). According to Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), the government is consistently working to fight the crises and make Austria more independent and secure. A two-day retreat in January marks the start of the new work year.
“We want to start the new year with a clear plan,” the Federal Chancellery’s APA said on Tuesday. The federal government has the task of combating the overlapping crises as best it can, Kogler stressed, referring to the consequences of the Russian offensive war in Ukraine.
“Lessons from the Crisis”
The turquoise-green federal government will start the new working year with a two-day government retreat on January 10 and 11. According to the Federal Chancellery, the projects and priorities for 2023 will be discussed in Mauerbach under the theme “Lessons from the crisis”. The focus should be on the areas of energy security, independence, energy transition, economy and the security situation related to the offensive war against Ukraine. The results of the meeting will be communicated to the media on the morning of January 11.
SPÖ meets on January 4 and 5, FPÖ on January 14
The first major working meetings are also planned for the opposition parties at the beginning of January: the presidium of the SPÖ federal party will meet on January 4 and 5 for the New Year’s retreat in Klagenfurt to exchange views on “current issues”. The FPÖ will hold its traditional New Year’s meeting on January 14 in the Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt. State elections will soon take place in both Lower Austria and Carinthia.
