Andoni Ortuzar, president of the PNV EBB, asks to focus on the negotiations on the government program before talking about the distribution of the portfolios, assuring that part of the PNV voters who had stayed at home in 2020 will now went to the polls.
Andoni Ortuzarchairman of the EBB of the PNV, bets on to extend the government agreement with the PSE-EE. The Jeltzale leader is confident that they will reach a successful conclusion. “We have experience, I have been involved in these negotiations for three terms, the interlocutors are old acquaintances and I hope we will know how to do it,” he said.
Ortuzar believes that is what matters most “merge the two election programmes” into one government programme and then negotiate “what responsibility fits each party.”
The president of the EBB thinks that they will spend “more time talking about the program than about the division of functions.” The sum of the two parties in the governing coalition has lost two seats compared to 2020, after the PNV lost four and the PSE-EE gained two. The internal balance in seats has therefore also changed, in favor of the socialists.
Eneko AnduezaSecretary General and candidate of the PSE-EE, after the meeting of its executive body, called for the increase in the number of Socialist seats to be “reflected in the clarity and strength of our voices.”
The Jeltzale leader appreciated that some of the PNV voters who stayed at home during the last CAV elections have now gone to the polls. “They voted for us in a critical and demanding way and we take note of it, we will interpret it well and we will manage the wishes of these people from the institutions,” he noted.
Ortuzar also referred to the results of EH Bildu, which goes from 21 to 27 seats, equal to the PNV’s number, but with 30,000 fewer votes. He believes this difference is “no small feat in a small country.”
“We cannot draw structural conclusions from very specific political situations,” Ortuzar said, referring to the “change in the cycle” that the sovereigntist coalition was referring to. He points out that it would be “equally simplistic” to say that if the Podemos space were to “come back to life”, EH Bildu would “evaporate” the six seats it won in these elections.
