Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk agreed to argue a match early next year to decide the world championship indisputable heavyweight, according to Fury’s promoter Bob Arum.
The British anger challenged Ukrainian Usyk, the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO champion, after retaining his WBC title this month with a 10th-round KO of compatriot Derek Chisora. According to Arum, Usyk accepted the challenge to find his lost belt.
The exact date and location for the unification matchup has yet to be agreed upon. The promoter ensured that neither fighter would play past matches in preparation for that confrontation.
“The two agreed to fight”Arum told Sky Sports on Tuesday. “Usyk is a good friend of mine, he is very intelligent and Tyson is Superman, both as an athlete and on an intellectual level. That’s why they want to fight,” he said.
Arum said the promoters had received significant offers from the Middle East to host the fight, although there was also the possibility of it taking place in the UK. “It shouldn’t be long before a final decision is made. We’ll have it all figured out,” said Arum. “Hopefully maybe by the end of the year,” he predicted.
