Carlos Mayo, another rival for Katir in San Silvestre

Date:

We are entering the last week of the year, which is dedicated to the celebration this Saturday of the San Silvestre Vallecana, the last major competition of the athletics season. It’s a test that continues to gain followers and big numbers for contesting it. Yesterday it was confirmed that the Aragonese Carlos Mayo has registered to take part in the famous Madrid race. Another stimulus for the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre, who sees how the level of the test is getting higher and higher. In addition, with its first presence in the Vallecana test, one of the big duels that will take place on the afternoon of December 31 is confirmed.

And it is that Mayo Mohamed Katir of Muleño will challenge over 10 kilometers because he is the best Spanish runner in the standings. A new challenge for him, who is taking part in the event in Madrid for the first time and will do so to break the national distance record on the road. In turn, Katir will defend his victory from last year in Vallecas against Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, current Olympic champion in the 5,000 meters.

No one has repeated the victory in the National-Dutch San Silvestre since Kenyan Mike Kigen achieved it in 2015, but Katir dreams of ending a fantastic 2022 for him in style, with a second place in Europe in the 5,000 meters and a bronze medal in the 1,500 World Championship test. More than 42,000 popular athletes have already registered for the test, in a race in which participants will receive messages of encouragement from their family and friends on a giant screen on the Puente de Vallecas.
