Cameroon soccer scandal

Date:

It happened again. The image of football Cameroon It went dark again as a result of a case that often happens in the African country: lying about age. The truth is that the Cameroon Football Association excluded 21 young players from the selection because they lied about their date of birth to be selected. They are all older than they say.

The federation has selected 30 youngsters for the African Cup tournament qualifying series for players under the age of 17, but it now appears that most will not be able to participate. Reason: they are too old. Ultimately affecting 70% of selected players. Fraud based on age and personal data has been going on in the country for years, especially in the world of soccer. That’s why the union is asking for an extra physical before qualifications.

So the players were given special tests. For example, an MRI of your wrists so doctors can assess your age based on the bones. In the end, 21 of the 30 players were over the age of 17 and kicked off the roster.

After the discovery, the Cameroonian Football Association asked players, directors and coaches to respect the rules, “because in the past it has damaged the image of Cameroonian football.”
