The RFEA establishes certain minimum requirements for the World Cup in Budapest

The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation has established minimum demands for the Outdoor World Cup in Budapestwhere it aims to “maximize sports performance and increase the chances of individual and collective success to aim for the best classification both in the medal table and in the points classification”.

The World Cup in Budapest, from August 19 to 27, is the great event of international athletics for this 2023 and, therefore, the RFEA has the mission to select the group with the greatest potential to achieve the following “milestones in order of priority”.

The first is to maximize the chances of success to achieve the highest number of medals and the best ranking in the points table.. The second, to reach the maximum possible number of positions in the eight best classified in the individual tests. The third, to reach the greatest possible number of positions among the three best European athletes classified in individual and relay events and the fourth, to maximize the percentage of participations progressing beyond different qualifying rounds”, indicates the RFEA in its statement.

The classification and participation criteria of the RFEA, published on its official website, are attached to the provisions of World Athletics in its participation regulations for this championship.

So far, the five athletes shortlisted for the World Cup in Budapest are marathon runner Ayad Lamdassemwho was sixth at the last European Championship in Munich, and the walkers Alvaro Martin and Diego Garcia Carreraat 20 kilometers, and Miguel Angel Lopez and Raquel Gonzalezat 35 kilometers, having achieved the goal of winning a medal at the European Championship or being among the top five at the World Cup in Eugene (USA).
