The white club catalogs Le Graët’s manifestations as “a lack of respect” for the Madrid legend
Real Madrid issued a statement on Monday in defense of Zinedine Zidane following the “unfortunate statements” made by French Football Federation (FFF) president Noël Le Graët.
In an interview with RMC Sport, the leader of the FFF, in support of his coach Didier Deschamps, recently extended until 2026, belittled the figure of the former Madrid coach by assuring that “I would not have picked up the phone” if he had offered to manage the French team. “Zidane was always under the radar, you don’t have to tell stories. He had many supporters, some expecting Deschamps to leave. But who can seriously criticize Deschamps? Nobody can. Make a special program for him to find a club or a squad,” he said.
The fourteen-time European champion is calling for “immediate rectification” as these words are “inappropriate for someone holding that representation” and “imply a lack of respect for one of the figures most admired by football fans around the world”.
Following the white club’s statement and the criticism received in France, including from the top level of the team, Kylian Mbappé, Noël Le Graët, has apologized via AFP for the “misunderstanding”. “I would like to personally apologize for these comments, which do not at all reflect my thoughts, nor my respect for the player he was and the coach he has become.”
