Favre (Nice), ninth coach sacked in Ligue 1

Lucien Favre became the ninth coach on Monday (at 20) dismissed for now from Ligue 1 2022-23. Nice announced the sacking of the 65-year-old Swiss coach who has held the position since June 27, 2022. Favre had led the Côte d’Azur team between 2016 and 2018. Earlier this Monday Strasbourg, penultimate in the table, announced the dismissal of Julien Stéphan.

Peter Bosz (Lyon), Michel Der Zakarian (Brest), Jean-Marc Furlan (Auxerre), Òscar Garcia (Reims), Olivier Dall’Oglio (Montpellier), Bruno Irles (Troyes), Gérald Baticle (Angers), Julien Stéphan ( Strasbourg) and Lucien Favre (Nice) are the nine coaches dismissed in this unstable Ligue 1 at bench level.

Nice decided to do without Favre (former coach of Borussia Dortmund and Borussia M’gladbach among other teams) after the elimination of the French Cup on Saturday (1-0 in the round of 32 against Puy, in the Third Division).

In Nice’s next match, this Wednesday in Ligue 1 against Montpellier (currently 14th in the table), it will be Didier Digard, Favre’s deputy, who will sit on the Allianz Riviera team’s bench on a temporary basis.

Nice, 11th in Ligue 1, has 21 points, of which it is 8 from relegation and 13 from the European zone. Favre never achieved continuity in results, keeping Nice away from the places for a Eurotournament to which it aspired.
