The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) has released a list of nominees for Athlete of the Year Award 2022 and it includes three Spanish ultra-long distance runners: Gemma Arenas, Houssame Eddine Benabbou Y Alberto Puyelo.

For his part, poyelo crossed the finish line in second position at 50 km European Championship of IAU with a time of 2:52:39, in which he also made his debut at the age of 36. In 2021 he was champion of Spain of 50 kilometers Y snow running and achieved silver in the national marathon.
40 ATHLETES WERE BEATEN
They are 35 athletes that make up the final list of nominees. All of them were selected according to the parameters of the IAU, taking into account the medalists of six IAU major championships in 2022.
However, there is still five slots are available which will be open to receive recommendations from the general public, although only runners who have participated in IAU-labelled events will be considered.
Voting will only open on IAU Executive Council and two members of Athletes’ Commission and Federation. The process starts with January 28, 2023 and ends on February 12.
