Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, does not want to talk about the acquittal of Benjamin Mendy, that he was found not guilty of seven of the nine counts of sexual assault with which he was charged.
“The club issued a statement and I have nothing more to say. Please, take the statement as my words”, Guardiola said this Friday in a press conference. The Manchester team released a statement on Friday once the jury’s decision was made public.
“Manchester City know the verdict which was taken by the court of Chester now, where A jury found Benjamin Mendy not guilty on seven counts. The jury failed to reach a verdict on the other two counts and the trial is over.”
There are still two cases open against the footballer, who has to face a new trial, for rape and attempted rape, on January 26. “As there are still two avenues open in relation to this case, the club is not in a position to comment at this time,” City added.
Mendy, 28, was suspended by Manchester City in August 2021.
