First victory of the Cantabrian Cristina Bucsa

The Spanish Cristina Bucsa got through their Australian Open first round clash against the German in unprecedented fashion eva lys by 2-6, 6-0 and 6-2, and will face the Canadian in the next match Bianca Andreescu2019 US Open champion.

Bucsa, who agreed to the second round of the ‘slam’ in the last edition of the New York tournament, did not waver after falling in the first set and reduced the risks of giving a solution to the ten unforced errors made in the opening set.

The Spaniard who was born in Moldova and lived in Torrelavega since he was 3 years old could only convert one of the nine breaking balls he had in the first set.

The German, who lowered the intensity by leading the scoreboard, ended up succumbing to the Cantabrian’s resilience who made just four unforced errors in a flawless second set.

Lys sought medical attention at the end of the second set to resolve some problems with his wrist and was unable to reverse the situation to suffer the first loss after his first three wins in the qualifying round.

Bucsa, who entered the final table from earlier as her rival, will face Andreescu this Wednesday after she defeated Czech Marie Bouzkova (25) 6-2 6-4.

It was Bucsa’s second Grand Slam victory, first at the Australian Open, with the main draw contested by him for the second time
