Bayern press for Sommer

Date:

Bayern are pressing ahead with the signing of Swiss and Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in migration, the muniqués club continued negotiations with M’gladbach to acquire the services of the goalkeeper. Julian Nagelsmann, coach of Bayern, because of the injury of Manuel Neuer, wants to include a goalkeeper as soon as possible.

Bayern wants to close the operation this week. He has agreed with Sommer on the Swiss goalkeeper’s contractual conditions, but both clubs need to reach an agreement.

Roland Virkus, sports director of Borussia Mönchengladbach, said last week, in statements to the Rheinische Post newspaper, that his club will not allow Sommer to leave for Bayern in the current transfer window. But things changed and M’gladbach was going Jonas Omlin, also Swiss, currently in Montpellier, replaces Sommer. Negotiations with Bayern are underway.

Bayern, without Neuer because the goalkeeper suffered a fractured tibia and fibula, had Sven Ullreich, the regular understudy for Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper, but wants to bring in another goalkeeper immediately. Sommer, 34 years old and international for Switzerland on 80 occasions, has been a member of M’gladbach since 2014, when he joined the club from Basel.

After the winter break, the Bundesliga resumes on Friday, January 20 including the match between Bayern and Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena. The Bavarian team is the leader and Leipzig, 3rd, 6 points behind Bayern. Freiburg, 2nd, 4 behind Nagelsmann’s.
