The German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorius) prevailed in a rough first stage of the Tour Down Underwhich took place on the 149.9-kilometer route that starts and ends in Tanunda ahead of Caleb Ewan (Australian National Team) and Michael Matthews (Jayco-Alula).

There was also a final crash just 400 meters from the finish line, after a disorganized finish and the nerves at the start of the season, with a tire sticking in the middle of the pack knocking out several riders, including young Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers), and splitting the pack, leaving the frontrunners to fight the final mag -stretch to the finish line.
Alessandro Covi (UAE) was fourth and Paul Penhoët (Groupama FDJ), 21, fifth.
Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost), winner of Tuesday’s prologue, retains the leader’s jersey after a massive day of racing, with a six-second lead over Matthews, who moved up eight places in the overall standings after holding a few bonus seconds midway through the stage.
