Yann Sommer signed for Bayern Munich today but his club of origin, Borussia Mönchengladbach, already has relief. This is about another Swiss international goalkeeper, Jonas Omlin. who arrived from Montpellier for a transfer worth, according to various sources, between 8 and 10 million euros.
Omlin, 29, joined Montpellier in the summer of 2020 from Basel for six million euros to replace Argentine goalkeeper Géronimo Rulli, who at the time ended his loan at the French club and returned to Real Sociedad though he eventually ended up at Villarreal.
After a season of acclimatization, Omlin established himself as a sure bet in Ligue 1 and made 74 appearances for Montpellier.
He was at the World Cup in Qatar but did not play
Omlin was Sommer’s replacement in the Swiss team and was part of the squad, but he did not play any of the four games in Qatar since against Serbia, on the last day of the first leg, Gregor Kobel replaced Sommer, out for flu. Omlin was capped four times by the Swiss national team.
To replace Omlin, Montpellier is in contact with Benjamin Lecomte, who has been on loan from Monaco to Espanyol since the start of the season and has expressed his desire to leave the blue and white club
