Eintracht Frankfurt became Bayern’s new chasing team in the Bundesliga on Saturday by beating bottom club Schalke 3-0 with goals from Jonas Lindström, Colombian Santos Borré and Aurelio Buta.
With this victory, Eintracht reached and surpassed Freiburg in second place on goal difference, which Freiburg beat 6-0.
Leaders Bayern drew 1-1 against Leipzig on Friday, but with Freiburg’s defeat they extended their lead to five points at the top of a Bundesliga that resumes on matchday after a two-month break.
Triple tie for second place
There are currently three teams with five points less than Bayern, which are, in this order, Eintracht, Unión Berlin -who beat Hoffenheim 3-1- and Freiburg.
The Union were behind for a good part of Saturday’s game until Doekhi scored to make it 1-1 in the 73rd minute. Then, at the end, Doehki himself put the Berliners ahead in the 89′ and in extra time Leweling scored the third.
Wolfsburg, with their win this Saturday, confirmed a good run after a bad start to the season and temporarily entered the European positions, it is sixth, but it could be displaced this Sunday by Borussia Dortmund if Edin Terzic’s team lost in Augsburg.
Leipzig in the Champions League
At the moment, the classification offers -besides the usual image that Bayern is the leader- some unexpected things such as the presence of Union Berlin, Eintracht and Freiburg in the Champions League positions and Leipzig, fifth , and Dortmund, seventh, out of them.
At the bottom of the table, Bochum achieved an important 3-1 victory over Hertha, a direct competitor in the fight against relegation.
Bochum came out of relegation
Bochum exited the relegation squares where Hertha fell, now penultimate.
Stuttgart drew 1-1 against Mainy and are now third from bottom, a position that will force them to risk staying in a double game against the third party in the second Bundesliga, with one point more than Hertha.
