The match facing Liverpool against Chelsea this Saturday (0-0 final) marked Jürgen Klopp’s 1,000th game as coach, reports EFE, and César Azpilicueta, Chelsea captain, 500th as a “blue” player.
Klopp (Stuttgart, June 16, 1967) began his career as coach on February 27, 2001 at Mainz 05, following a logical evolution after completing at this same club a period as a player more willing than brilliant (“he has Fourth division feet and a First division head”, the coach met today from Liverpool).
Since then, after also managing Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, Klopp has become one of the most important technicians of the century. He achieved the first Bundesliga promotion in Mainz’s history -where he was also relegated- and won 2 Bundesligas, 1 German Cup, 2 German Super Cups, 1 Premier, 1 FA Cup, 1 English League Cup, 1 English Super Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 European Super Cup and 1 Club World Cup. In total, 538 wins, 240 draws and 222 losses in his career.
“When I started I didn’t know if I would have a second game and now there are a thousand. This is a good figure, even if it is for 22 years, which quickly passed. Motivation is not a problem, I have the energy for ten years,” Klopp said on Friday, a day before the match against Chelsea.
