Vine, last champion of the Tour Down Under with a podium in Bilbao

the aussie Jay Vine (UAE-Team Emirates) won the general classification of the Tour Down Under, after the last stage in which the British won Simon Yates (Jayco-Alula), including Spanish Bilbao hair (Bahrain Victorious) in third place on the final podium.

After two years without competing in the test due to the pandemic, Vine, Australian time trial champion, became the ninth local cyclist to win the race, marking the first victory for the rider in his new team.

UAE Emirates controlled the race at all times and did not allow anyone to threaten Vine’s lead. In the final sprint to Mount Lofty, Yates beat Vine both in 2:41:16, while third place went to fellow Australian Ben O’Connor (AG2R) by 2 seconds.
