Filzmaier analyzes – quarrel in politics – yes, but good!

The “ÖVP Corruption Investigation Committee” in parliament is coming to an end. Whatever is seen as right or wrong in government action in purely political terms – committees are not a court, it is not about criminal law and no one is acquitted or convicted – the image of this committee lingers with the permanent dispute in politics. Everyone pleads with everyone.

1. In a democratic society with a diversity of opinions, substantive conflicts are inevitable. That is good. The sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf even describes democracy as an ‘institutionalized dispute’. This means dealing with factual issues. One can and should discuss which labor market, education or health policy would be best.
