Juventus appointed a new sports director on Sunday to replace Italian Federico Cherubini, who was disqualified on Thursday for 16 months by the Appeals Commission of the Italian Football Federation for changing, along with other directors of the Turin club, the amount of players on some transfers and generate capital gains.
Italian Francesco Calvo, former head of the club’s cabinet and former global business director of FC Barcelona, is from now until the end of Cherubini´s punishment, the new sports director of Juventus, where the office will begin the second phase.
A new path begins for Juventus, which last Wednesday gave entry to a new board under the leadership of Maurizio Scanavino -general director- and Gianluca Ferrero -president-.
Juve found themselves on Friday with a fifteen-point sports sanction that greatly complicates the sports season due to the so-called ‘capital gains case’.
The Prosecutor’s Office accused Juventus of increasing the market value of footballers in order to generate more revenue from their transfers in order to achieve a fictitious capital gain. That way, he can minimize losses, not recapitalize and strengthen the team.
“An unfair punishment”
The new general director of the ‘Vecchia Signora’, Scanavino, described the penalty as “unfair”.
“We consider this sentence completely unfair and unfair. In the next days we are waiting for the reasons, which should arrive at the end of the month, but without a doubt we will call CONI to support our positions, which are very solid and clear, and they have been successfully accepted in the ordinary process,” Scanavino said in a statement released by the club.
“Federal justice can act in a summary and unfair way: it creates concern because today it happened to Juventus, but tomorrow it could happen to another team,” added the Turin club.
