The Colombian Fernando Gaviria (Movistar), is happy with second place in the second stage of the Vuelta a San Juanand thanked the team for betting on him for sprint finishes, “putting runners at my disposal”.
“I am very happy with the performance of the team and myself., and thanks for the commitment of the team so that I can compete in the sprints. It was a change in a group of climbers, putting runners at my disposal. We showed that we can control the race and then play it,” said Gaviria.
The 28-year-old cyclist from La Ceja was close to claiming what would be his ninth victory in San Juan, but Jakobsen was unstoppable.
“Yesterday was a strange day, but today was an arrival without incident or confusion. It was a difficult sprint because of the last corners, but I was well placed to compete. Fortunately, Jakobsen and I lost, no one should object. I was happy, but it wasn’t one of my best sprints either; If it is, I win,” he said.
