The German boy, 22 years old, Marius Mayrhofer (DSM) took the sprint victory at Cadel Evans Great Oceana one-day event on the UCI WorldTour calendar held this Sunday with a 174.3 kilometer route that starts and ends in the city of Geelong in Australia.
Mayrhofer overtook French Hugo Page (Intermarché) and Australian Simon Clarke (Israel) at top speed.200 meters from the finish there was a fall involving Dries Devenyns, Dorian Godon and Ethan Hayter.
Local sprinters Michael Matthews and Caleb Ewan avoided the drop but missed out on a chance to win and finished fourth and sixth respectively.
The race went relatively calmly after Taco van der Hoorn’s breakaway was neutralized with 40 kilometers to go. The rest of the battles are controlled by the sprinter teams.
