The Triathlon Federation of the Region of Murcia (FTRM) held its traditional awards ceremony for the best athletes and clubs of the past season at the Victoria de Blanca Theater last Saturday. A few hours before the event, the General Assembly of the institution took place under the leadership of Diego Calvo, President of the FTRM, attended by the President of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, José Hidalgo, a regular customer of this event.

As in previous editions, the FTRM presented its special awards recognizing the performance of the year, which this year went to Totanero triathlete Sergio Baxter Cabrera, for his victory in the Pontevedra World Cup. In addition, Baxter was named best male triathlete. This year, the award for Best Female Triathlete went to the absolute regional team consisting of Natalia Hidalgo, Paula Sánchez, Nieves Navarro, Eva María Sánchez, Miriam Andreu and Isabel María Navarro.

As for the Best Promise awards, in the male category the award was shared between Salvador Martínez and Pablo León, while the female award went to Nieves Navarro. Alfonso Cervantes received the Best Engineering Career award; the Municipal Sports Council of Águilas, that of Organizer of the Year; the CT Arabí Yecla, who went from Labor to the promotion, and Lorena Millán, as Civil Servant of the Year.

It was without a doubt a very special day for the totanero Sergio Baxter, who at the age of 22 is the best Spanish triathlete of 2022 and dreams of repeating a season like this in 2023. His career is on the right track and he is a clear candidate to compete in the 2024 Games in Paris.

The 2022 exercise closed on Saturday and the 2023 exercise opened yesterday in Lorca, with the first test of the Duathlon Regional League. Belén González, from Águilas Primaflor CT, and Jesús Montoya, from Murcia Unidata CT, won. Organized by the Lorca Triathlon Club and the Lorca Department of Sports, the competition also included the minor categories, with 258 participants. As for the absolute, 129 athletes took part in a test that consisted of running 7 kilometers, cycling 30 kilometers and running the final 3.5 kilometers.
