“I will never close the door to Athletic, it is my club, but I owe myself to Celta”

Date:

Athletic and Celta agreed last summer for the loan of Unai Nuñez to the club from Vigo with an option to extend it for next season. The now celestial central defender had an outstanding performance yesterday against the lions in a match that ended in a local victory thanks to a goal by Iago Aspas. The Biscayan defender admitted at the end of the clash that this was a special match for him.

“I tried not to think too much about it because I know that in Bilbao they will see if I did it well, if I did it badly, if I hit a hat on a former teammate… I have to think Celta , I owe it to Celta. We have to leave the situation we are in”, assured Nuñez to the microphones of Radio Popular de Bilbao.

The sky-blue defender recognized that “it is a game that is completely different from the others due to the fact that I have been with Athletic since I was little and facing my club, my friends and my teammates. .. They are very strange feelings , but we won. We need it badly and we have to continue in this line.”

Regarding his contractual situation at Athletic, Nuñez indicated that “all I know is that I’m at Celta now and we have to get the team out of this situation. Let’s see what’s next.”

In Bilbao, it is not known at the moment what will happen to Iñigo Martínez, who ends his contract on June 30. Unai Nuñez seems to have things clear in this regard. “I’m never going to close the door on Athletic, it’s my club, but I’m at Celta, I owe it to Celta. What happens with Iñigo is none of my business. I don’t know if he will renew or not . He knows what he has to do and everything he does is right. I have to think about my thing, which is to work and improve so that whatever comes comes”.

The central defender from Biscay also admitted that the experience at Celta is serving him very well. “The truth is that in Bilbao I asked or needed to have several games in a row and here I achieved it. I played a lot and the confidence of the club and the coaches, both Chacho and Carvalhal, was very good for me. It was necessary. I’m back to feeling like a footballer”.
