Alexander Zverev will not be penalized by the ATP. The body that runs the tennis circuit “did not find sufficient evidence” to prove accusations of sexual violence made by his ex-girlfriend, tennis player Olga Sharypova.
The investigation, which began in October 2021, mainly focused on the alleged abuses that took place at the Shanghai Masters 1000 in 2019although it also includes alleged misconduct in other places, such as Monte Carlo, New York and Geneva.
Lake Forest Group (LFG), the company hired to conduct the investigation, conducted extensive interviews with Sharypova and Zverev, and 24 other people, including family and friends, tennis players and other party involved in the ATP Tour.
In research examined documents presented by the two, including text messagesaudio files and photos.
This includes material voluntarily removed from Zverev’s electronic devices by a third-party forensic expert. LFG also reviewed operational records related to the Shanghai tournament, documents submitted by third-party witnesses, and public records, including social media messages and press reports.
After an exhaustive process of 15 months, the investigation did not prove the allegations of abuseor determine that violations of ATP rules on On-Site Violations or Serious Player Violations have occurred.
Hence the ATP will not take any disciplinary action against Alexander Zverev, although he reserves the option to do so if new evidence emerges in the futureor if any legal proceedings reveal violations of ATP rules.
We remember that Olga Sharypova, a former tennis player, denounced at the time, alleging that her partner at the time tried to suffocate her with a pillow and slammed her against a wall in a New York hotel ahead of the US Open in 2019, facts the tennis player has always denied.
