A Sunni cleric was doused in petrol and set on fire by unknown perpetrators in Iran on Monday. The victim suffered severe burns and died shortly afterwards.
The crime took place in the province of Kurdistan in the northwest of the country. The Tasnim news agency gave no further details.
The region has been a stronghold of protests since nationwide demonstrations broke out in September. With the start of the mass protests, the Islamic Republic of Iran plunged into a serious political crisis. The trigger was the death of Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini in police custody. She had been arrested by the so-called vice police for violating Islamic dress codes.
